Criminal Charges and Tickets in Hendersonville

Hendersonville is in Sumner County, which is Tennessee's 18th Judicial District. Our office is on the Public Square in Gallatin, where most Sumner County cases are heard. Attorney Chloe Hawes handles our criminal defense cases.

Where your case goes depends on what you were charged with.

• Hendersonville City Court. The city court hears city code violations, "including traffic tickets, regulations of animals, property maintenance violations and more." Court meets at City Hall, 101 Maple Drive North, every Tuesday except fifth Tuesdays. The city says paying a citation counts as a guilty plea and goes on your driving record. Anyone under 18 when cited must come to court with a parent or guardian. Missing court or not paying can lead to a license suspension through the Department of Safety.

• State charges start in General Sessions. Misdemeanors such as DUI, theft or assault, and first hearings in felony cases, are heard in Sumner County General Sessions Court. The clerk's office is at 155 East Main Street, Gallatin. Our General Sessions court guide explains your first court date.

• Felonies. Sumner County Criminal Court sits in the Criminal Justice Center, 117 West Smith Street, Gallatin.

• Bond. Sumner County judicial commissioners set appearance bonds and release conditions. The county says this work runs around the clock. The Sheriff's Office and jail are at 117 West Smith Street.

• Treatment court. The Recovery Court of Sumner County, including its DUI Court, is an option for some defendants.

Probate, Wills and Conservatorship for Hendersonville Families

A will is probated in the county where the person usually lived when they died (Tenn. Code Ann. § 32-2-101). For a Hendersonville resident, that is Sumner County, where probate is handled by the Sumner County Chancery Court.

• Clerk and Master. The office is at 155 East Main Street, Room 3600, Gallatin.

• What it handles. The court lists probate, conservatorships, guardianships, trusts and minor settlements, among other cases.

• Filing. The office takes filings in person, by mail, by fax or by e-filing, and posts probate forms on its site.

Our estate work is handled by attorney Kylene Ross with our probate paralegal, who has 20 years of probate, wills and estates experience. Start with do I need probate in Tennessee? or our probate, conservatorship, wills and trusts and power of attorney pages.
